First, a short background which may aid in your decision of which character you'd like to portray...
Perhaps the most infamous period in the history of magic is the Elf-Dwarf Wars. During this time fantastic mystical powers were wielded. Much destruction was wrought and the known world was left devastated in the wars aftermath. Since that time no dwarf has ever delved into the practice of magic, though many do counsel other races away from the exploitation of the arts.
Elves remain amoung the most learned in the arts of magic and most practice and promote a cautious exploration into the mystical arts.
Humans are also proficient in the arts, surpassed only by the elves and creatures of great magic, such as dragons.
In general the knowledge of magic is a well guarded secret of it's practioners. In order to learn the arts one must find a wizard, mage, etc. willing to accept an apprentice. Then one must earn ranks within their specialty. In Cain the Master is the supervising authority to all ranks within his/her specialty.
The Master of each Specialty is chosen based on skill by the Queen of Cain to stand with her and assist all others within that specialty. This does add 1 hit point to his/her status, giving each Master a total of 6 hits.
